THE GOLDEN CONDOR
THE LEGEND

According to scientific literature, the Condor is a huge black bird that is found in the Andes Mountains.

The books explain that each Condor chooses one partner for its entire life. The female Condor lays just one egg and both parents will look after it until it can take care of itself.

In contrast to what is written, the Chilean people have their own beliefs based on stories that have been passed from one generation to another. They believe in the Millaman which means Golden Condor in the language of the Mapuches, the native people from Chile. The story says that in Sagrada Familia, a town located in the south of Chile, from time to time the locals have seen an extraordinary bird flying over the snow-covered Andes Mountains.

Those who see its shadow projected on the wild landscape of the area, which includes impressively high cliffs and almost frozen lagoons, say that there

"Whoever has the unique opportunity to see it will find that the soil on which he is standing secretly keeps the richness of plentiful fruits."

is no doubt that it is a gigantic Condor. The open fingers of its shadow, its impressive wingspan and its flying velocity add further proof to the locals´ hypothesis. However, different from other common Condors, when you look at it during the evening

when the sunlight paints the mountains pink, its golden and copper colored plumage shines.

It is said that the Millaman is born once every one hundred years. The parents feed the baby bird with gold and copper, which represent the soul of the Andes. Whoever has the unique opportunity to see it will find that the soil on which he is standing secretly keeps the richness of plentiful fruits. This gift will be imparted only to those willing to give the earth all their effort, love and dedication.

Millaman Winery produces wines at the foot of this same mountain with the same dedication that the Condors give to their offspring. We have bottled with special care a little bit of this magic that is born in the heart of the Andes Mountains and we sincerely hope that you will enjoy in every bottle of Millaman, the Golden Condor.
